FAQs
Answers to our most asked questions about raw food diets for dogs.
How do I introduce my dog to raw food?
We always recommend slowly introducing raw diets over approximately 2 weeks. This helps to minimise any potential for stomach upsets which can happen if a change in diet is sudden. Some pets will have no issues with a quick changeover in diet, however, to be sure, we do recommend slowly introducing the new food.
Day 1–3 | 20% New / 80% Old |
Day 4–6 | 40% New / 60% Old |
Day 7–9 | 60% New / 40% Old |
Day 10–12 | 80% New / 20% Old |
Day 12+ | 100% New Diet |

Which product should I feed my dog?
Leading Raw makes meal-time stress-free and simple. We have 4 life stage recipes for dogs: Puppy, Adult, Senior, and Energy. Puppy is perfect for growing pups that need extra calories and a calcium phosphorus ratio of 1:0.7 that supports healthy bone development. Our Adult recipe is perfect for general wellbeing and weight maintenance, while Senior has less calories and fat for our dogs as they slow down. Energy is for working breeds and highly active dogs.
How much do I feed my dog?
We have handy feeding guides on our product pages as well as the packaging. Our feeding guidelines are just a general guide and generally round up to the nearest convenient amount (eg. half patty) but it’s a great starting point when working out how much to feed your pet. Your dog’s metabolism, breed, size, age and activity level may affect their overall feeding requirements. Use our guides as a starting point, monitor your pet's weight and adjust the feeding amount if necessary.
How long does Leading Raw last?
Our raw food is safe to feed up to their expiry date (printed on the box) if it has been correctly stored and frozen for the whole duration.
After thawing the food, we recommend it’s kept in a sealed, airtight container in the fridge, and used within 2 - 3 days. Discard any thawed product that no longer looks or smells fresh.
Can I mix kibble with Leading Raw?
Yes, you can co-feed raw with kibble, just ensure to adjust the feeding portions to reflect this. For example, if you choose to split your pet’s diet into 50% of a Leading Raw diet and 50% of another diet, we advise to only feed half the recommended feeding portion for each diet.
Can I cook your food?
No. Our recipes contain crushed real bone. Not only does cooking change the nutritional value of the fresh healthy ingredients, cooking bone results in it also becoming brittle, potentially splintering and should not be ingested by your dog in this state.
